Great Tatas legacy behind every top institution of India & emergence of Tata Consultancy Services (TCS)

In the interests of one and all ...

My dear countrymen!

Tatas were gifted people full of business acumen attained a legendary status in India by their noble deeds. They have become a household name in India. Everyone in  India knowingly or unknowingly is getting benefited one way or other by either using its products or services directly/ indirectly. There is not a single activity Tata is not involved in. We recognise their activities by phrasing as Pin to plane everything they produce the country needs including all household items needed for human consumption.

Tata gives a world class unique working culture for entire working class and all private companies to emulate them. Anybody joining a Tata company is properly groomed to excel in life. None heard about Union in any Tata's company nor any strike in their company. People are the satisfied lots.

I know many people who have worked in their company. Some of them retired,
some taken voluntary retirement scheme (VRS). Those who were asked to take pre-mature retirement were given full tenure remuneration with other facilities without any restrictions. They may join anywhere else after leaving them not heard anywhere in the world. They ( Retiring employees ) were so happy that they treat them all (Tatas) no less than God owing to their warm relationship and friendly environment they had been throughout their career and life.

Tatas treat all their employees as members of their family and look after them properly as parents take care of kids. Given below are some of their gestures:

a)  As Tatas have a passion for Flying. Actually, J R D Tata who was India's first pilot and founded its first Airline, piloting the maiden flight himself. His Tata's Airlines was nationalised and exists still today as Air India. He on seeing air hostess going on duty used to stop his car and allowed her to sit with him giving great respect for most sensitive job rendered by her (air hostess).

b) While walking one evening he heard painful noises coming from one of the flats belonging to factory's workers. On enquiring next day, he came to know that noise was coming from a factory's employee,  suffering from cancer. Immediately he arranged for his entire treatment in America at company's cost and when they landed in America he was there before to receive them to accompany them to the hospital and ensued that they should not face any problem during their stay. This was the height of their love to a common employee of their company.

c) There was a party going on in Tata Chemicals factory. Tata had hired an American consultant to accomplish some specific job. Tata had introduced him to one Mr. Seth, who was a chemical engineer at the junior level. They were gossiping and enjoying the party. The next morning, when Tata asked for American consultant, he was informed that he had already left the place for America. Tata reached America by first available flight.
Assuming  something wrong might have happened with him in night party, asked him apologetically the reason of his sudden return without even informing him, to his great surprise he told him that when he (Tata) already has the competent person like Mr.Seth, he need not require the services of him, so he came back. This was the working style of Tatas to go to the depth of any problem.

d)  When Air India was under his (Tata)  reign while flying once he had an English seated beside him. English gets irritated due to Tata's frequent leaving up his seat. On getting much irritation, he ultimately asked him where was he going every now and then? He politely told him he was going to check the toilet whether they were in order or not. Then he commented, I understood now this was perhaps the reason you have enhanced and maintained the status and the reputation of your Air India why people knew Air India as Maharajah.

e) Like British, they follow a referral system. They value the recommendation of their staff for someone and give the new entrant a chance to prove his worthiness because his survival is exclusively based on his capabilities only.

It's a very interesting to know how Tata's ancestors came into India? In fact, they were descended from refugees who fled persecution in Iran. While looking for a suitable place for permanent shelter, when their ship reached near Indian shores and requested for shelter, the then king of India sent to them drum filled with milk hinting them there being no room for them as the place already full. Tatas returned the whole drum filled milk mixing sugar into them. After much deliberations Indian ruler and his ministers understood their gist reply as- they are peace loving skilled people and would help us bring prosperity to the people and the nation as patriots. They were given shelter and it had perhaps been a very visionary and pious decision of the then ruler of India. It is for all of us to see them in reality.

Actually, Tatas Group is founded by Jamsetjee Tata in 1868. Among his successors was JRD Tata. Ratan Tata took over in 1991. Tata group of companies is a global enterprise. Factually, Tatas are treated as quiet men of Indian businesses. MNCs feel blessed if they somehow associated with Tata Group of companies.

As soon as they entered the Indian soil, they started working wholeheartedly and always on the look out to the projects country needs for the welfare of its people and prosperity to the nation. They kept on entering every field and established world-class institutions and companies worth emulation. Most of top Govt institutions/ companies today are either founded by Tatas or somehow somewhere related to them directly or indirectly at some stages, later owned by Govt. by nationalising them.

Much worried about government taken over bid of all his companies one by one, they finally founded Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) in 1968 anticipating at least this will be their everlasting company Govts. would never be able to take over.

Jai Hind.
