Rajiv Chowk of Delhi Metro - Inviting Disaster any unfortunate day.....!

In the interests of one and all .....

My dear countrymen..!

The moment we enter the METRO to cover any desired destination, the feel of the safe and pleasant journey brings us a great sigh of relief with the gladness. And from that moment on we keep on remembering innumerable times without choice our great METRO man Shri Shreedharan with awe and great respect, simply because of many advantages associated with the excursion.

Sometimes we feel when we have a living legend like Shri Shreedharan, why not opt to adore him and also persons like him rendering great services in various other fields touching the human lives directly or indirectly almost daily. It's not at all a poor idea if we prefer to offer them our best reverence and regard than over imaginary figures/characters of our mythologies. At least his Metro has touched the lives of almost all in terms of helping and delivering real services (direct and immediate) with utmost care and satisfaction.

This good practice may probably encourage the talented youth of today to emulate him and others en masse and eventually help not only themselves earned name and fame but also excel the country on the path of progress and prosperity.

There will hardly be anyone in Delhi who has not yet enjoyed the pleasant riding of Metro. Metro has altogether changed the lifestyles of Delhiites to the extent , it has become the Lifeline of all Delhi as well as people belonging to satellites towns of entire NCR and keep on expanding its reach further to every nook and corner of Delhi and neighbouring cities with a mission to serve and offer them pollution free world-class neat, clean, convenient, cheap and safe public transport system. It has almost revolutionized the social and business concept by opening various avenues untouched and unthinkable of to date. Without a doubt, this is the UNIQUE  exclusive GIFT to Delhiites from our great Shreedharan.

Not that, Metro was not available before but had not got that popularity and prominence as after entering Delhi. From the very first day of its launch in Delhi, it has started touching everyone's mind and soul to its core.

When Metro was at the planning stage in 1984 and only started running from 24th Oct 1984. Kolkata being the first city in India had already running Metro from 24th Oct 1984 and Chennai was the second city where Metro began in 1995 but they were never talked about nor as demanding as after its introduction here in Delhi. Today, it is an Established Brand, proved to be a world class modern successful public transport system, even Japanese were glad, surprised and willing to help further having full confidence and faith in Indian capabilities.

With having pleasant and memorable experience people have in Delhi, tremendous demands have arisen from almost all the states. And it has become a challenging task for every state to start Metro sooner the better for all in every respect. Not only that demand from Asian countries also flowing in to introduce Metro there soon. It's a matter of great pride that additional responsibilities are also being shouldered by Metro most successfully.

It's a great sigh of relief and satisfaction for people and govt. both that a very fast, reliable and cheapest mode of modern transport system has become a reality in Delhi facing poorly maintained unreliable and non-functional transport system for quite a long time. But Delhi Metro has not only solved this crisis but also helped much-curbing pollution thereby giving people a clean environment.

Delhi Metro under DMRC perhaps the first corporation deploying the best available technology in the world had hardly compromised on quality in order to provide the best possible services with maximum efficiency.

Despite these measures, In the recent past, Metro services are affected somehow, though irregularly, in some of its routes particularly Noida/ Vaishali To Dwarka Sec-21 ( Blue Line ) due to some technical faults or unforeseen situations beyond its control. Due to these infrequent failures and the sudden problems arising thereafter need serious thinking in larger public interests.

Now, coming back to the vital issue of passengers safety at all major interchanging stations particularly, at Rajiv Chowk during regular peak office hours and during Emergencies when services are likely to be hampered on account of any unforeseen situation beyond its control. Though Metro Administration is aware and due measures also were undertaken but these are not enough to manage unimaginable crowds sometimes, therefore, extra cautious needed to avert any unbecoming situation. Otherwise, God forbids, if any mishap happens, of which there is every possibility, it will severely damage the reputation and laurels the great DELHI METRO has earned till date.

This problem can be avoided by adopting various strategies. Meanwhile, according  to me, following simple steps may be tried immediately, to begin with:

1) Deployment of minimum two guards are mandatory against each coach to discipline and ensure that all passengers alight first and then enter in an orderly manner. More guards may be deployed to keep the unusual situation fully under control.
2) passengers should be instructed repeatedly by available guards there as well as by frequent announcements at platforms, outside and inside coach about how to alight Or enter the coach.
3)  Metro personnel should also be in random service inside the coach to make sure the compliance of all announcements. It is necessary because it is often seen that people, as a matter of routine and habit do not take important pronouncements seriously leading to uncomfortable situations, sometimes leading to quarreling.

There is no harm if these precautions are taken, in greater public interests, at all stations having the least possibility of such circumstances to avert any unbecoming situation.
